We are challenging you, the youth, to take a stand against violence in our communities. Take a stand by becoming ONE LESS. One less victim of your environmental circumstance. Do not allow your surroundings to dictate your future, because ultimately you will be held accountable. Life does not allow do overs, many actions are permanent and therefore require thought. Many of us claim we are leaders, but joining gangs, selling drugs, and causing harm does not reflect leadership. A leader is someone not afraid to be themselves and someone exceptional enough to stand apart from the crowd. Hood Hopes & Urban Dreams challenges you to be ONE LESS!
Provide an example of a time that you were exceptional enough to stand apart from the crowd.

Where I live there are guys that don't go to school, gangbang, drink, and smoke weed. I choose not to hang out with them because they will end up in jail or dead. I only hang around people that are positive or trying to do something with thier life.

There was this time where some friends and i were all plannin on going to this party.... there were much older guys and the engagement of illegal substances. I had a bad feeling about the whole ordeal on account that i knew the history of the men. I adviced them not to attend.... they still wanted to go. After pleading with them to find other plans failed I let them go about their business. I turns out the party eneded up gettin raided by the police... "Drug Bust" while they were caught in the mist of that, I was at home watching Law & Order: SVU :)

I remember there was a time when this boy was being picked on, because of his weight. Everyone was talking about him making jokes, laughing and making him feel really bad. I did not join in like the others who were making fun of him, instead I was saying: "Don't talk about him!" At the end he felt like I was his hero in a way for standing up for him when no else would. It made me feel special, and so we became close friends.

When was I a leader an not a follower? Hmm... let me see. Oh, wait I have one; Okay so I remember when I was at school and it was this girl, who I didn't like. So anyways she did something embarassing I don't remember what it was about, but she was being talked about bad. Even though I wanted to like laugh and talk about her like she does me, I had enough common sense to stand up for her, even if she probably wouldn't do the same thing for me. But I was a leader that day.
